Bass Nemakonde Mbira
Samson Bvure & Newton Gwara
As many of you have asked in the past for "deep" sounding mbira, we are happy to Dambatsoko and Nemakonde styles on instruments. Dambatsoko are mbira in the nyamaropa tuning style however with a lowered pitch. In western terms a dambatsoko is referred to as a low E. Both Sam Bvure and Newton Gwara have made these instruments for us. Additionally Mr. Gwara has also made a matching high E for duet playing. Bass Nemakonde mbira are in the gandanga tuning style. Like dambatsoko, they are a lowered pitch – again approximately a low E. Both styles of instruments are made to our quality specifications. For a western oriented description dambatsoko and nemakonde, please see N. Scott Robinson's excellent page on mbira tunings. |
